Harley Cokeliss (born 1945) is an American director, producer, writer and actor born in San Diego.〔(The New York Times )〕 He was born Harley Louis Cokliss, and his name is credited as Cokliss until the late 1980s, when he changed the spelling to Cokeliss. He was brought up in Chicago, but moved to Britain in 1966, studying at the London Film School. For most of his career he has been based in Britain. He started making documentaries for British television in 1970, including the first filmed version of J. G. Ballard's story ''Crash!''.〔Baxter, John, Chapter 34, "The Nasty", The Inner Man: The Life of J.G. Ballard, Hachette, 2011.〕 He later graduated to making feature films, working as both director and writer in some cases, such as ''Dream Demon''.〔 Chibnall, Steve; Petley, Julian (2002).
